I disagree with the premise that blood magic is bad, but I like the underlying message.  No one activity or trait or anything should completely define a person. I think even people who hate blood magic, even people who aren’t fond of mages in general, can look at someone like Merrill and see that she is a good person. Merrill is not simply a “blood mage.”  She is a woman who happens to use blood magic when necessary.
